Default Fuel pump prob...

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and I find it very imformative. I have a 99 s70 t5 and when i try to start the car it turns over but does not crank over. I took the fuel rod off and disconected the main fuel line, started the car and no gas came out. I believe it is the fuel pump. I took out one of the spark plugs, grounded it, started the car and got spark. I've done a headgasket job on this car already and pretty familer with this engine. The car has 224,000 miles on it. What I'm asking is maybe some guide on removing (dropping) the gas tank to get to the fuel pump.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, I hope you find it helpful & enjoyable.

I'm sure you knew what you were doing, but I wouldn't recommend anyone doing this, due to possible fire hazard. There should be a Schroeder valve where you could check for fuel pressure.

Anyway, it does sound like a fuel-pump or its relay (if so equipped) failure problem. Lately, a lot of people are having fuel pump & relay-related problems in the 850 forum.

Check out this vendor:

http://www.fcpgroton.com/CSV70/volvocsv70fuelsystem.htm

Many of us here use FCP Groton. Now, as to the fuel pump, you do not have to buy the entire assembly, which costs about $300. You only need the insert (core), and Hella-Pierburg is the OEM.

For this problem, a gentleman by the name of RedTurbo850 could tell you how to go about replacing the pump assembly.

I hope this gives you some ideas.

Good luck,

JPN

Thanks JPN,

I know its not the relay. I took the pump out, turned the key over and nothing. Its the pump. I ordered one from Ramac out of Nevada. Cost about $325.00. I checked all relays and fuses with a normal 12v light tester and they all lit up. Car should be running in a few days. I'll let you know.

Thanks again

^Holy crap. It sounds like you overpaid for your pump. All you need is the insert (the actual pump itself w/o the housing).

I haven't worked w/ an S70, but lift up your trunk matting and see if there are some covers. This will save you the headache of dropping the tank.
