Default Help wanted in placing me in the right volvo.

Hello, I'm looking into getting a volvo soon. My problem is that I have no expirence with Volvo's. I can tell you the in's and out's of a 1980's f-150 but with volvo's I'm lost.

I have looked at a few s80's (from 2000 - 2002). I'm impressed with the vehicle, but I have been steered away from the first generation (1998-2002?) due to eletrical and transmission issues.

I have an interest in the s40, s60 and s80 line. I have no idea what so common issues are with these cars. I'm looking into the late '90s and early 2000's. Is there one line I should choose over the other? Anybody know the common issues of each from the era I'm looking into?

Please, any help is great!

(most deffinately a newbie to Volvo)

I was really looking into the s80, but I've been steered away. I have also had an interest with the s60 and I'm not against the s40. I have been trying to get the "nitty gritty" about all these models.

Despite similar styling the cars differ significantly; space, power, and ride quality are markedly different between all 3 - as was/is their intended owners. Be more specific if you want advice. The S80 was exceptionally sophisticated when first released and this leads to problems with any groundbreaking piece of machinery. Look for an 04 or newer.

Reliability, that would be the S90. It's strong but not sporty. I guess you can go test drive one and see what you think.

The turbo S/V70's are smooth and sporty but require more maintenance and repairs.

Sorry for not replying for a while. I needed to get a vehicle fast and the outdoor lifestyle and work I live required a truck. I now have some money saved up to get a volvo again and I'm more into a sporty car that is realiable and gets decent fuel economy. I would say this is impossible, but nothing is impossible with volvo . The body style of the s40,60,and 80 appeals to me. I will be doing about 65 miles of daily driving and some cross state trips depending on what college I go to. My budget is around $4k and I'm just looking for some input.
