helpp!!!
need more info.... Does the car crank over? Does it sound like the starter motor is turning but not engaging the flywheel? Does it fire up then makes the whining noise? Does the whining noise happen when the key is in position II?
The car does crank over than turns off, the whining noise only occurred during acceleration, if I release pedal no noise. When I try to start I get smoke from the area where the oil filter housing gasket is. However it does sound like the starter is making a weird like noise like metal grinding together

totally confused here. if it smokes when trying to start, it could be electrical ie the starter motor is drawing too much current, heating the cable etc. If it smokes when running it can be something is leaking onto the exhaust manifold or perhaps you have a problem with the crankcase ventilation. Whining during acceleration is a whole different symptom. Does it whine only while in gear? does it sound different during straight line acceleration vs a curve? Does the transmission shift smooth? Any clicking noises when driving slow?
