Question High-Mileage 240 Value

Hi, folks. I have a 1990 240DL with at least 866,553 miles on it (the odometer shows 866,553, but it stopped working a few years ago). It's in rough shape, but it runs and drives well enough.

I'm just curious whether that high mileage makes it worth anything. I need to sell it and get a large wagon or a full-size van, but the best offer I've had so far was $400 from the scrap-yard.

Thanks.

---Joe

I've got a 85 with 305, xxx , only 400 buckkks

Unless the car is mint, its probably worth nothing, at least to anyone not interested in Volvo.

Put it on Kijiji. Take a couple pictures, and put a price like 600 bucks to it. If its in decent shape, you might get it.

Joe, how long have you had it and how many miles per year do you put on it?

Take the $400. I was going to say $70/tonne.

Typhoon: The local scrappers are paying 13 cents a pound (last time I checked, anyways), so with a car weighing just over 3,000 pounds, that's about $400 (plus whatever I can jam into it).

RSPI: I bought it about four years ago, and managed to put about 10,000 miles on it before the odometer stopped. The guy I bought it from was a courier; he'd drive a thousand miles a day regularly. That's where that mileage came from.

You should keep it, fix that odometer, and catch up with Irv Gordon and his P1800. Or roll it over 999,999 and sell it on eBay with LOW MILES!!!

I'm with Burn. Only don't say it has low miles, take a pic of the dash, say "Working Odometer - Actual Mileage" and let them think it has 15,000 miles. LOL

If a million mile vehicle has greater value than one with 300k it's easy to "roll up" an odometer. Just pull the speedo cable and put it in a drill chuck... trigger locked on.

This is also a good way to make a speedo read what you want it to read for a movie or whatever.
