I lost one of the factory switchblade keys for my 2005 XC 70. I know that a new factory switchblade key fobs not only has to be cut and the RF freq programmed (keyless entry), but there is also an immobilizer chip that has to be programmed. I'm told about $500 bucks to have a new key made.

Instead, I was wondering if anyone knows of a fob only that can be programmed and used with my service/valet key? I know I can't unlock my glove box, but I can live with that...I never lock it anyway. If I found a fob only that could be programmed with the keyless entry code, then I would be set. Here is a fob that might work? It has 2003 - 2005 XC 70 listed as one of the models is is compatible with.

Has anyone successfully done this?

That listing is wrong. Don't buy that. Keys and remotes are programmed. The labor is the same to program a remote, a key or both at once. So you might as well bite the bullet and get it all done at once.
