I am looking into buying a used Volvo and am wondering if anyone knows about this particular model? I am wanting to know if there are any reoccurring major issues or anything like that. I would really really appreciate advise!!!
Its a 2003 Volvo v70 24t with 192000 miles.

 

There is nothing special about this model/year - it will share the common problems/issues to similar vintage Volvos. Key things are to know the car's maintenance history. I'd check some things before buying - 1) open the oil filler cap and look inside. Any sludge (staining is ok)? Infrequent oil changes will lead to issues with the VVT (variable valve timing) gears and clog the PCV 2) test for PCV pressure - put a surgical glove over the oil filler - if it inflates fully while the engine is idling, you are not venting the crankcase full which will lead to oil leaks 3) Check for the timing belt change history. These cars need timing belts done every 100K miles and if that fails, you crash all the exhaust valves into the pistons. 4) what's the color and smell of the transmission fluid? black/burnt is bad, reddish brown is good, dark brown is ok but shouldnt smell burnt. 5) any signs of oil or coolant leaks? 6) does the AC blow cold and stay cold? The AC clutches tend to wear and may need to be reshimmed from time to time. The AC may start up and blow cold but after 5-10 minutes will stop blowing cold when the AC clutch heats up. 7) any suspension noises going over speed bumps etc? broken spring seats, bushings, sway bar end links are common causes of thumps
