Default Locked myself out of my V90 ...

How does this work? I inadvertently left my key fob in my V, along with my cell phone, and locked the car. My wife was standing next to me (she had a spare key fob in her pocketbook). When I returned from the restaurant, I realized that my key fob was in the car. Luckily, I used my wife's key fob to gain entry.

Question: I was able to lock my car, by depressing the door latch button from the outside of the car while the door was closed. Shouldn't my car NOT allow me to lock my car, from the outside, if my key fob is in the car (in the center console area)? My 2007 Lexus ES 350 will not allow me to lock my car, from the outside, if my key fob is in the car, to prevent me from locking myself out of the car (like, it appears, the V does).

If this locking process works as designed, IMO it's a bad design. In my case, since I had locked both my key fob AND cell phone in the car, as was several hundred miles from home, it would have been a huge disaster if not for me giving my wife a spare key fob for this just-in-case situation.

I haven't encountered that yet and I hope I don't. I only have one Key for my S60. I just got it recently and haven't made it to the dealer yet to get another key programmed...because it is expensive, but a necessary evil I guess. I had the same issue you had with the car locking with the keys inside in a 2012 Kia Soul. Thank God, for that I had two FOB's so I was never locked out. I had a Honda Civic that wouldn't let me lock the keys in the car. Whenever we went to an event and my wife didn't want to carry her purse, she always wanted to lock it in the trunk, but the trunk would refuse to completely close until she removed the keys from inside her bag. Maybe there is a software update to fix the problem?

My wife also, sometimes, likes to leave her purse in the trunk ... and I have to remind her to carry the spare key with her. As I mentioned, with my 2007 Lexus ES 350, if a key fob is left ANYWHERE in the car, I cannot lock the car. To me, Volvo should safeguard against this. In my case, being hours away from home, two states removed, thank goodness my wife had her spare key for me to unlock my car.
