looking to buy...have reservations
i have recently been looking for a kinda sporty 4 door sedan and just found a 06 s40 its white with leather and all the options i love the way it looks and it drives very nice, however it has 109k on it and i just am a little gun shy on the mileage i have been told they will last well into 200k but i have seen some things online about electrical gremlins and such it is listing for 8900 and i am just wondering if you guys would have any input for me anything would be appriciated. thank you so much
That does sound pike a great car. I bought a 96 Volvo 850 glt that had 170k miles on it and it is a GREAT car. I've heard nothing bit good things about Volvo cars and that they will last easily 400k miles if proper maintenance is given. If it was me id buy it as long as it had been taken care of.
If it were me I would make sure the car you are looking at has a good maintenance/service history. I have learned my lesson the hard way by buying cars from eBay without service histories (88 760 Turbo with 166k) and buying locally ones that have receipts from the 1st day it was sold (93 Saab 900 Turbo convertible 232k). If the previous owner took good care of the car and can prove it by producing receipts, this car will probably be a good bet. I also would look at present and past April issues of Consumer Reports where they actually survey all of their millions of members as to what kind of problems they experienced with their vehicles as well as forums such as this one.
If you are the kind of person that can appreciate the engineering that Volvo puts into their cars and you are willing to pay the small premium for parts and/or service, then a Volvo may be a good choice for you. If you just want something to go from point A to Point B and you don't mind a boring ride, then buy yourself a Toyota with its numb steering feel, etc. Good luck and enjoy your new ride!
