low coolant and cold weather outside????
Hi guys, well after this happened once and after a coolant flush at the dealer, i've been keeping and eye on my coolant level. in the morning, and the car parked in my heated garage, i'd check the coolant level and it's almost at the "max" line..no problem. Today i went outside (parked the car out overnight) and it was cold (around 3 deg. cel.) and i opened the hood and the fluid is now about 3/4 of an inch below the "min" mark....how can this go that low all of a sudden? does the cold outside temp have an effecct on this? once i got the engine up to temp, i stopped and checked it again at it was near the "max" line again...is this normal or something to check? can a bad/stuck thermostat have this effect on the coolant??? the heating in the car comes on pretty quickly on startup and at operating temp the needle is smack in the middle of the dial.
let me know.thanks

It's been very cold here the last few weeks as well and just this week I've noticed the "low Coolant" light come on...after the engine warms up (5 min or so) it goes away. I didn't look yet at the level but I'm guessing the same is happening to my 2004 v70. Hoping somebody else has an answer.
I should say I've only had the car since April so this is the coldest days since we've had the car and by cold I mean in the 20's-30's...and the car is not garaged.
On a side note it seems from what i've read that most people agree that you should only use "Volvo Coolant"?
