Jenga, I tried; I have a classic 1999 v70, the car does not have the correct male/female plugs. You may have discovered this yourself. After many weeks of pesteing my local Volvo dealer he gave me a number of connection shorts (short clustered cables with various types of plugs). By connecting two of these I manage to interface with my standard wiring loom. Disconnect the battery before attempting this!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ensure the battery stays disconnect for at least 10 minutes. There is a memory issue for your old/new unit BUT you do not want to spark off the airbags!! IT CAN HAPPEN.
I had to buy the navigation compass and special cable (Volvo only) in addition to the hu1205 unit. I also had to buy the CD pack from Volvo which you may have or not but it has the maps etc.
The rear of the hu1205 does not have the normal antennae socket and because of this the unit is unusable at this stage. I tried externally to power the unit up with external speakers (to protect the looms and speakers on the car) and it works, but not the radio. I ensured that the power to the hu1205 was fused with 500milliamp (0.5 amp) fuse, but any radio fuse will do. do not use the standard car fuses as these will be strong enough to burn out your unit. The fuse blew when I turned up the volume (as expected). There are 18 cables coming out of the hu1205 so ensure you do not get them crossed. The hu1205 is expensive enough but so are volvo speakers!
I am developing a wiring diagram in absence of getting one from volvo and will match that with the car loom when I do get that loom diagram from the dealer.
They had never seen the back if the hu1205 before and it pays to find someone who did, the big issue is the plug connection for the antennae.
Be aware there was more than one version of the hu1205. My system is model 3AF285C/NR-1205-2. which implies series 2.
This may not have helped but I would be happy to send the wiring configuration via email.
