Default Need help making my mind on which volvo

Hey guys, just signed in here because I was getting mixed reviews from older volvos.

At the moment I own a summer car and I'm looking for a volvo as my daily driver/winter car. So far I came across 2 cars that I'm interested in.

First one is a 1998 s70 that has a strange story. It started as a base model and was owned by an old couple and it was then used by a volvo mechanic. Anyways he managed to blow the engine. That's where it gets interesting. This volvo was bought by a guy and his father (both volvo fan, they had 3 in the yard when I went to see it) who put a T5 engine (and some trim on the inside) in it after the son blew the automatic transmision in his T5. He said he had run this setup for 3 years. Engine and car both have 270k kilometers on them (mostly highway) in the merged car and it's a manual transmission wich is a plus for me. The clutch is shaking when taking off and has a high bitting point but it doesn't seem to slip when putting the foot down. Rear brakes need to be done and the E-brake doesn't work and the windshield has a small crack. The body and the interior is in surprisingly good condition exept there are some rattles and there is a squeaking sound coming from the rear left (not the shock). The guy is asking $1500 for it.

Other one is a 2000 v70 XC with 192k kilometers on it. This one I haven't had the chance to drive at the moment. I'm a bit afraid of the automatic transmission in it and the AWD system as well as the electronic throttle body. The body is also pretty clean but the interior is a bit dirty. The windshield has a bigger crack than on the other. This one goes for $2000.

So where should I go? I'm planning on getting the one I settle for inspected but I still don't know wich one. The high pressure turbo and manual is quite fun but the awd and wagon is also quite practical.

Please help me decide

Easy choice. The 98 S70's are comparitively simple and reliable. The 00 XC is trouble-prone and complicated. You say it's AWD, but you'll have to keep it actually working. Not easy.
