I have 2003 S80 with 4CD changer that displays "DISK ERROR" message. I am going to try to take the radio out, clean the optical sensor, put it back in and see if that helps.

Now, are there any tricks or things I should know about? I have read that I may lose steering wheel controls and that would have to be reprogrammed by the dealer. Is that true? Any other things that I need to watch for?

Probably needs a new one, but I do not think you will lose anything.

 

When my cd changer said Disk Error it had broken gear teeth inside. I was able to mess around with it and get it to work a little, but sooner or later it will need to be replaced.

 

I've had the stereo out of my '02 S60 and didn't have any problems when I re installed it. No anti-theft code, no lost steering wheel controls...nothing.

One more question. Can I drive the car without the radio for a while? I don't think I will be able to take it out, fix it and put it back the same day. I am just curious about any error codes that the car may throw.

 

The car does not care. Just dont sing to it or it might throw a code.
