New Volvo ownership not going so well.
Picked up the "new" Volvo on sat. This was a cert. used 2002 V70, 2.4T Unfortunatly there are no dealers in our town, nearest is 150 miles away. When we got home, noticed a few things. One, the drivers window, you have to wiggle the switch to get it to work, up or down. Also noticed the one tail light lens has 2 cracks in it, you can only notice it, if you look a certain way, we missed that on the walk around. I'm sure they won't do anything about that, as they can say it happened after, my fault should have caught it on delivery. Still a pi$$ off though. Poked around under the hood, airbox right FULL of crap and dirt, and filter very dirty. And another, twice now, go to start it, and it just rolls and rolls. Shut the key off, and it starts. And the owners manual, and service book are in french, no good to us at all. Not huige things(so far) but NOT very happy at all when this was supposed to be a "certified" car. I'm going to throw this on the hoist at work on monday, and I sure hope I don't find anything else wrong. I'm a lic. Tech, and now service Mgr. at a very large Chrysler dealer, and long time Chrysler fan and driver, I hope this isn't a start of a bad experience.
I guess I expected more, I always held Volvo in a higher light than the "big 3" and this is coming from a guy that has always drove nothing but domestic cars. That said, I haven't contacted them yet, I'm going to look it over good tomorrow, and give them a call and see what they will do.
Well talked to the dealer, and they seemed quite good on the phone, so I guess we'll see. List ended up being VERY dirty air filter/ VERY dirty trans fluid/ cracked tail light/ funny discoloration on windshield that came back/no lic plate lights/drivers power window switch bad..........and they are going to find some english manuals for it. Hope this doesn't turn out to be a problem car, its VERY nice to drive.
Let us know how it goes.
Sounds like some dumb A** tech didn't know what he was doing looking it over.Or it was a Friday night at 4:30 inspection.
That is horrible that you have to go through that.
They should have done way better than that.

Yeah, sounds like a dumb a$$ tech................ they did a brake fluid flush too, it was on the bill, yet today when I looked the screws were dry and rusty............LOL .......clowns
as a fellow new volvo owner (96 850 glt wagon), stick with it. i replaced my filter, plugs+wires, pads, rotors, oil change, tires+wheels, and have an appt for coolant and tranny flush/refill. it sounds like i have done a lot of stuff for only having the car for 3 weeks, but in actuallity, its small things you should do when you buy a used car anyways, whether the dealer did it or not. you cant trust anybody but yourself and your instincts. you said your a tech, so you should have a good idea of when something has or hasnt been done, as you said with the brakes. the only car that is 100% from the dealer, is a 100% new car. there are a few good dealerships/salesmen out there, i wont trash them all, but a lot of them only car about getting that commision.
stay with it, you'll grow to love it

Well they did fix most of it, without any hassle. New window switch and software(WTF is up with new software needed everytime something is replaced???), new tail light lens, lic. bulbs, manuals, new plugs(That made me happy, had just put new ones in 200 miles ago...LOL), and a new windshield. Flushed the trans and did a software update, but its no better, still has a very noticeable double bump when shifting into drive. So its gonna have to go back for that. Oh and the trim on the windshield came loose on the hiway, clips are all broke.
They usually swap the whole trans out or do repairs? I haven't been able to find harly any info at all on these trans. Seems strange it shifts so well, just has the double bump goin into D.
