Default OBDII Scanners

Hello,

I am wondering what the best scanner is in general to use for Volvos. I purchased an AUTOPHIX ES610 scanner which I hoped would help read Volvo codes, but this is not the case as its Volvo diagnostic functionality returns nothing for the issues below.

I currently have a 2011 XC60 with the following issues:
  • P0420/P0430
  • ABS/DSTC Service Required
  • City Safety Service Required
I am trying to
  1. Determine which ABS sensor is causing the issue with ABS/DSTC/City Safety
  2. Reset the codes once the issue has been repaired.

Do I need to purchase a VIDA DICE scanner to do this? If so, is it acceptable to purchase one on the variety of foreign sites which sell them, or is there a suggested retailer? It seems that the price for these varies greatly. I would like to find a scanner that I can use with this and other Volvos.

Thanks!

You need to have access to an OBD2 code reader that supports the ABS code set. I'd start with a big box store like Autozone et al and ask if they rent/loan scanners (most around here do) and whether their loaner supports ABS codes. Next step would be to buy a unit - shop around there's quite a few makes/models - just look for something with ABS and SRS like the Autel AL619 or AL629. There's also blue tooth scanners where you install an app on your PC or phone (choice of app decides the features). Go into Amazon and search on "abs scanner bluetooth" and you'll see quite the list.

I just bought a 2020 Volvo XC60 AWD and it still has 2 years left on it's CPO warranty. I'm looking to get a capable OBDII bluetooth with an app that can do all of the following: (1) EPB control for rear brakes (2) ABS (3) read and reset codes for all the car's computer modules. I found the Xtool AD20 PRO BT for $30 on eBay, but can't tell if it supports Volvo or if reads all the modules or even if ABS and EPB are supported. Would appreciate any help om this. Thanks,

https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/w...-volvo.595647/ is a good thread to read through. Again the first issue is what codes the scanner can read, then its a question of whether it will map the proprietary values to Volvo's interpretation.

I did read through the thread - thanks.

I am leaning towards the Foxwell 710 which has WiFi updates included for life and appears to have the capability to handle all Volvo modules and tests for my 2020 XC60. A bit pricey at $250, however, easily justified with just a single rear brake job (compared to $950 at the dealer). I have a good DSO in addition to look at waveforms, so I am thinking just this one purchase should give me everything I need.

Would appreciate any specific feedback and/or experience with the Foxwell 710 please. Thanks!
