Question One owner vs low km

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, but come from an old line of ZVolvo owners, and am on my third, but in looking at my fourth, I have a conundrum.

two cars I have picked, 2001 V70's one has the same owner, no accidents, and 204 km. The other has had two owners, one accident, and 100 km. NB this second car has not had the timing belt changed as far as the owner knows, although claims to have had it serviced at a Volvo dealer....not something you miss on your service bill eh?) I am leaning towards the first, but my wife the second..... I have a '79 245 on line that looks great too, but she definately xnaed that one !

My current s 70 has almost 300 k and the engine is running strong , but the electrics are all failing ie AC, heater motor et.

ANy insites or thoughts much appreciated,

M.

So that's roughly 60,000 versus 120,000 miles. Assuming the accident only bent sheet metal that was replaced, I'd get the low mileage one.

Yeah, "an accident" doesn't tell us much. As long as there was no frame damage or damage requiring work around any area with glass(they will genreally leak) I go low since we're talking only 60 k here. Hows the interiors?

I'm going against the flow on this one. In days past, statistically around 65K miles a car would start needing things like starters, generators etc and for a while, until all this stuff got replaced, it would seem like something would go out every week. Once all these components were replaced you were good to go for another 60-70 K. Hence, you were better off buying a car with 80K which had just had a bunch of work done, than one with 50K that was getting ready to need it. Yeah, I get that cars/components last a lot longer now, but I think the basic principle is still the same. I would take "well maintained, with all records" over low mileage and a bunch of question marks every time.
