Default PNP, Neautral Safety Switch

Happy new year all,

Does anyone have an easy way to get access to the PNP switch on a 1996 Volvo 960? I have seen Bay 13's explanation on a 740 gaining access from the top of the engine which was slick, however I have a straight 6. This is an attempt to correct the flasing arrow on my instrument panel and the intermitent flashing lights in the Shift console between E & W. I did try briskly shifting between P and L aprox. 30-40 times. This didn't correct the problem. Oddly enough, I'm able to clear the trouble code which temporarily stops the lights from flashing.

Thanks Folks,

Waldo

Default RE: PNP, Neautral Safety Switch

The PNP on the 960 is located on the right side of the Transmission. There is 1 12mm bolt holding it on. Then you will need to unplug the connector from the left side of the trans. Then loosen the big nut a little and slide it out. Sometimes it will be stubborn. I use my angle prybar and pry carefully from the pan on the back side of the big nut.You will have to turn it some to slide it by the exhaust.

When you install the new one you will have to center it properly for the car to start. I use my digital meter on Ohms and it beeps. I use the Red and blue wire. It needs to beep in park and Nuetral.
