i have a 1985 volvo 240 wagon and just need some input. my power steering is very loud and choppy. any ideas?

 

I assume that you have checked the fluid level. The fluid does not last forever and flushing the system and refilling is a good place to start. At some point someone may have used the wrong fluid type. Over time the seal in the power steering system wear down and the debris can plug up the valves, the steering rack, and the pump. There are products available to flush out the system. However, sometimes the only stuff that is sealing the system is the gunk and debris inside and flushing the system can cause leaks to form.
