Price of Volvo Parts
I read a lot in here about the High Cost of Volvo Parts......
I was going to Update my "L" Badge on my Lexus to the Newer style...Notice I said "WAS"...
I checked out the Lexus Dealer today for the "L" badge for the rear of the New Lexus 600H..the one with the Blue Insert....
Hold on to your hats.....$584.00 ea.

I personally don't think parts are that bad when you consider dealer parts. I did learn that some dealers charge more than others for the same parts. A key for my car cost $37 at one dealer and $65 at another, same key. I think the dealers all pay the same price from Volvo, but have the option of adding whatever they want on top.
The thing about American cars is that you feel very comfortable buying parts from NAPA or AutoZone. My Jeep Grand Cherokee had a problem with the window lift. The part at the dealer cost $257, at NAPA it was $116, and I ended up getting it on eBay for $54. I don't believe the part form eBay was of the same quality, but we always feel comfortable buying aftermarket prices for domestic cars.
I think it goes back to the fact that most of us (Americans) don't expect to keep a Buick as long as we would a BMW. And won't hesitate to take our new Chevy to Jiffy Lube but would never take our Jag there.

shop around...
As an employee of another dealer (Lincoln-Mercury), the local vovo dealer gives me a 'courtesy' discount of 15-20% on parts and labor, the same 'courtesy' (LOL) my own employer gives me. Sometimes its just flat-out easier and faster to pay the higher dealer price and move on than shop around (in my case, the vovo store is about 3 blocks away -- even better). Nevertheless, it NEVER hurts to ask the counterman for a discount as a volvo nut... most places can give you about what i get anyway. (i did it for years on mustang parts.) A good price in the same state could cost more when you add shipping to sales tax!
If it can wait, on online deal can be better deal, especially if the shipping is no higher than the local sales tax. I used to have an online source for new orignal parts but lost it somehow...rats. Now i am looking around again. i do distrust a lot on ebay unless i am referred by someone who has had prior experience with the vendor.
Anywhere to find good sources for used parts on this board? I found a good one in Atlanta run by the parts mgr at a vovo store - pretty straight-up guy and decent prices....

parts and prices
I have found that if your willing to dig you can find good prices, I just purchased 2 Venator wheels for ours and found 1 dealer wanted $605, 1 wanted 579, I ended buying onl;ine from a third dealer (volvo of dallas, discountvolvoparts and wholesalevolvoparts.coms) for $450 w/shipping.
