Default RPM hang when revving

Hi all, I recently got a 2.0 litre petrol C30 facelift, I love it but my main gripe is how if you rev the car from idle, the revs rise and then fall quite slowly, you could pump the throttle a little and the revs would only return to idle after a couple of seconds of being off the throttle completely.

My only other experience with a petrol car (for a long time at least) was a 2000 Peugeot 106 1.1, which had a cable throttle. A very different car in many ways but felt a lot more responsive, it would rev with your foot if that makes sense.

I don't really notice the delay as much when driving, but it just kind of nags my mind and makes the car feel somewhat sluggish, (Moreso below 3000rpm). I wouldn't say its slow, it just feels delayed.

I replaced the solenoid for the swirl flaps which apparently can help with a sluggish feeling but I don't feel much to any difference. There were two solenoids there though, the original had been replaced by a previous owner - and just left there disconnected. I removed both and put the new in, though.

Is this just a thing with more modern petrol engines, or could there be an issue?

It is likely that this behavior is related to the car's modern electronic system, although it could also be caused by things like the idle valve, throttle sensor, or components of the intake system.
