Default s40 questions

What is the relationship between mitsubishi and volvo...in regards to an 2002 S40?

I know some volvo's are somewhat related to the mitsu.....what about thw 2002 S40?

I would be VERY VERY dissapointed to buy a mitsu that says volvo on it.....

thx

S40s from 2000 to 2004 1/2 were assembled in a Mitsu plant I believe in Belgium. The operative word is assembled. Parts for the car came from all over Europe, but I believe that engine and tranny are all Volvo. I dont believe that where they were assembled would negate their safety and reliability. Some folks are saying that since Ford bought part of Volvo they arent the same quality cars, but I cant prove that.I think we will see more, not less , of cars being homologated from parts from all over, i.e Ford owns part of Mazda and is sharing the Mazda 6 platfrom with Ford and Jaguar, whom they also own. The Mazda 6 GT AWD car uses Fords 2.3 liter DOHC 4 cylinder engine that is turboed and tweaked to within an inch of its life. It goes on and on. BJ

That is the KEY word Assembled and thats all.

None of the parts interchange.

They were just built at the same plant.
