Had an ignition coil fail on my S70 @ around 200,000 miles. I'm thinking of having a spare on hand. Is this a common failure part on high mileage 2000 Volvos?

Yes, I have a whole junk pile of them from my 96 960. I just go to my local u-pull it yard and stock up. I think I go through one every two months on my kid's 960 but for the price of used one's and how easy they are to change im ahead of the game. I have never had any go on my S80 or XC90 but the XC Is fairly new.

 

I got a spare coil in last week. On Saturday while accelerating onto the freeway I got this vibration that at first I thought was a tire issue... but I soon knew that I had dropped a cylinder. Did not have the backup on me, but thanks to my next door neighbor, he rescued me 30 miles from home with the spare part from my work bench. Guess I will get another coil coming!
