Seeking buying advice on a 2004 V40
Hi all,
Complete newbie to the Volvo scene here, hoping to benefit from the experience of this community.
I went to check out this wagon yesterday and I'm asking for context on how the car's value and risks balance out.
2004 V40
105,0xx miles, clean carfax, exterior needs some TLC, but good overall.
Observations from driving;
Steering, suspension, drivetrain and powertrain all feel tight; no hard start, no indication of motor mount wear/failure. Brakes felt weak, I'm aware that premature pad wear is an issue with these.
-Interior seems to be completely functional aside from the stereo. However, the headliner, front seats, and trim throughout need attention or replacement.
-CEL reads p0171
The car is located in a small town an hour outside the city where I live, on a lot with no garage. Can't find a mechanic who will make the trip out, and there's no lift on the lot if they did. Lot owner won't let the car that far off lot for insurance reasons, so I won't be able to get a pre-purchase inspection done.
He tells me his bottom dollar $2,800. I'm grateful for any input to help give me some clarity, thanks.
