okay got some actual volvo codes today and its shift solenoid b... im going to do the labor myself and hopefully everything will come out okay... i hate this car, but it looks like im going to be stuck with it for a while so might as well try to fix it. anybody who has any experience with this feel free to share some info. i need to know how hard this will be, if it would be worth fixing, how i should go about doing this job step by step... any help at all will be great.

that'd be awesome!!! the solenoid looks external, but ive been informed that it sits inside the transmission in some sort of casing... is this a real urgent fix or what? the light went back off, but i know the problem is still in there. oh, i had a spec take a look at those codes and he said they translate to o2 sensors and not the air mass sensor also that the catalyc converter is bad... kinda a shade tree shop with a bunch of refference books... only place around here i could find that messes with volvo's. not sure what to think about this. the cat being bad doesnt sound right though. the one bonus that comes from this is the transmission is gm, and i was shocked when i seen how cheap the solenoids were. the bad thing is... the transmission is cheaply made by GM...

The Cat is the last thing I would look at.
The o2 sensors would be the next to last thing I would look at.
First I would look at a Vacuum leak and make sure the vent system isn't clogged.

You might be able to wait some on replacing the solenoids.

okay, its raining today so no update on the vacuum issue, but it is sticking in third gear and im a little worried... it had been having trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th and now it is sticking in 3rd even in manual mode. oh, and it only does it after it gets warmed up. still sounding like a vacuum leak or clog?

oh, i was just running through the search and found out that the abs could throw the trans service code as well.... does this mean if the abs module is bad that it could tell the cpu to make the car run in limp mode? would this tell the cpu that it is a solenoid?

No way it would set a solenoid code. Id usually doesn't go into limp home from the ABS either.

It doesn't show the solenoid but they are in the side of the valve body under the side cover.

okay where can i find a lifting fixture and does this job involve a engine hoist/ cherry picker? also are there any other specific tools i will need for this job besides an array of torx bits?

You can use a cherry picker instead. You might have to make the other style hoist if you want to do it that way.

The rest should be normal tools.
