Shot in the dark.....1998 S70
Hello Volvo folks, I'm a tech that's been twisting wrenchs for 38 years. I've done hundeds of timing belt replaces on everything out there. During my years in this business I've also had to break bad news to owners of interferance engines that it's 99% chance that the engine has bent valves because a belt failure while the engine was running or cranking.........but every now and then and I mean on Feb.29th I'll have an interferance engine that the cam or cams stopped in exactly the only position that didn't bend valves. This has happened about 5 times in 38 years. My question is has anyone had a lucky owner of a S70 that didn't bend valves during a belt failure. I'm only looking for a flicker of hope for my neighbor. His tensioner failed in his driveway during start up. I have explained the facts and he think he would like me to put a t/belt kit on it in his driveway and try it......he feels he will be #6. I doubt it so I'm putting the question out there.....does anybody know or heard of someone getting lucky with this engine. He can't afford a repair more then the belt gamble and I don't have access to air or the time to pull the cams and pressurize the cylinders to diagnose it properly. Thanks
