One of my mechanic friends is selling it for a good price... but I don't know too much about the 740's or what kind of potential they would have. It's in pretty decent condition. Some one brought it in to the shop to get a new head but couldnt afford it after the work was done. lucky me!...maybe.

It's a pretty old car. How many miles on it? The 740 was never known as one of the more reliable Volvos. Then again, if you are getting it for $400-$600 it's probablywell worth it. Anything over $1500 I would look for something different. The 740 is a RWD car, and there is really nothing wrong with that, but most newer cars are all FWD. If it was a 240, I would be more inclined to say get it. They were some of the most reliable cars ever made.

I used to like the 740s, I had a few,if its cheap fair enough, comfy cars they are, I had a few 240s, and must say i cannot recall having any serious issues with them at all. but i found the 2.3 better on fuel than the smaller engines, maybe because of the weight the engine had to pull,And if i recall, quote me if i,m wrong anyone, i am sure the timing belt went on one of them, and there was no damage at all.just a new belt and off i went. lol.

haha. Well, he also has a n/a manual 240 for sale, i just dont know how much i really like that car. It just looks abused. the 740 seems to be in good condition. 180,000 miles i think. I'm just waiting on the title. sigh. I really just want a car. lol. I'm not going to settle for anything less than a volvo, but I'm not having too much luck.

How much you looking to spend? I just saw something in Charlette, NC the other day when I was just looking on AutoTrader. If you really want a Turbo find an 850 Wagon. My daughter got one with 140K on it for $3,000 last summer. Not quite red, but it is Burgundy with charcoal interior.

I found several in NC when I just did a search on Autotrader.com. When looking keep in mind that for year 97 the 850 GLT had a low pressure turbo. The previous years the GLT did not have a turbo. You also might want to include the 98 V70 in your search. In 98 you would want either the GLT or the T5.

It depends quite a bit on the car of course. I'm thinking a decent 98 V70 GLT would go for around $6,000, a T5 maybe $7,000 and an R for maybe $7,500. I've seen them in decent shape with high mileage for around $5,000 though. I paid less the $10,000 for mine three or four yeas ago. Haven't had a bit of trouble with it either. Mine is the GLT or Low Pressure Turbo model. I want to get rid of it though and get a T5M.

I've never been called M8 before.

I was on AutoTrader yesterday and there is an 01 C70 Convertible, HPT, 5 Spd on there that has been there for more than a month. I sent the guy an e-mail and asked if it was still for sale and he said yes. It's black with a black top and light grey interior. He's asking $11,900 for it, but I'm sure he will be looking for offers after this much time. If anybody is interested it's in Richmond, VA if I remember correctly.

I'm heading to the ocean soon to watch for my ship coming in so I can buy it. My other problem, other than having the money of course, is I only have a three car garage and I don't want to get rid of any of mine. I have to have at least one V70 and I really like my T5R and my white 850 R.

The T5 was available in '97 cuz I've got one I paid $4800 USD and it had 135k miles on the clock......as for not being able to find one...I guess you mean locally...well there are a few around ...its just a matter of time...there is always something out there with your name on it...good luck finding one...

There's nothing wrong with a turbo 7 series. The problems they have are typically minor, annoying failures, and they won't leave you by the side of the road. They're very easy to work on and repair (cheap to repair) and parts abound.
Honestly, if it's cheap, it'll be as reliable (and almost as quick) as anything newer, with the bonus that they're cheap to hot up as well. They can very easily be made to go quite rapidly and handle very well, teh brakes are typical Volvo goodness.
I love my 90 745 turbo, for teh reasons above.

Regards, Andrew.
