v70 xc problems
I slid on ice in january...hit a curb with passanger front wheel. cracked the wheel. went to service station next to accident. the service station replaced wheel. upon first driving the car after repair heard a loud humming noise that gets louder the faster you go..sounds like waaaaa waaaaa and a vibration. these problems were never there before the accident. the service station did not know what the problem was so we went to our local volvo service. after spending over 2000.oo on replacement drive shaft bevel gear, propellor shaft, and engine mounts (which they said were making the noise) the noise is still there. the volvo service cannot find what is causing the noise. any suggestions on what it could be?
Lift the pax-side wheel with a floor jack and try shaking the wheel with your hands, if you can do so safely. Have you replaced the hub-bearing assembly? The hub-bearing assy on the V70 is an integral unit and has to be replaced as an assembly. If the noise gets louder iaw the vehicle speed, most likely it is coming from a rotating unit. I would also inspect the driveshaft bearing cap, that is located on the pax-side of the driveshaft.
