Question Sound System Questions?!

Hey guys, I have a 2005 s40 t5 and had a few questions I wanted to ask you guys before I go through with buying a new sound system..I basiaclly want a bumping LOUD sound ha. My sound system is really nice already, not sure if its stock or what! But they sound beautiful, just want some louder bass. I'm only 17, and work A LOT and am almost done paying off my car, then I wanna buy a sound system; its just something I would like to have even though my system is great already.

*I dont know much about any of the sound system so bare with me if the questions are dumb*

my brother had new speakers and a 14" sub in his jeep, sounds beautiful and very clear(can hear the words clearly but has a lot of bump and bass without a rumpling vibrating sounds covering the words). also my friend put a sub and idk about speakers in his old volvo and it just rattles and the bass/vibration just covers the words and all you hear is bass..will it rattle and have too much bass since my trunk doesnt have a opening my my brothers jeep cheerokee..or whatsup haha?

I dont know if my volvo had aftermarket speakers put in but the sound is pretty damn nice, is there a way i can check the speakers so i can tell you? and if its stock speakers and you all know how they sounds, would a sub and the stock speakers work good togther?

Is it hard to install with the volvo sterio system/anything extra youll need that you wouldnt for a average car?

What size and brand do you recomend, also what all do i need?

OKAY! sorry for all the long questions, thanks a lot guys

Usually trashy sounding systems are under powered, the bass taking power a way from everything else and making the system sound like crap. I'm not sure what you have in your car but some Volvo's do have a very nice system, which in those Volvo's are considered the PREMIUM SOUND system. You can check your owners manual to be sure what you have. Then you can usually hook up an additional power amp to run subs.

Since Volvo's are not real big on killer sound systems you may be playing hit and miss until you get the system you really like. Figure out what you have first, then go from there. Usually an enclosed trunk system would make for better bass response.

I have a 2002 HTP C70 convertible with the best sound system (sound logic), a $1,000 extra. I haven't heard a better after market one, and if you adjust the settings you get the booming base you want. And it fits nicely and looks good in the dash. It has 14 speakers with surround sound.

I've done a little with aftermarket systems in other vehicles, and I was rarely ecstatic with the results. For me, the best stock systems have been the best. My 98 v70 has stock premium sound. I'm always surprised by how good it sounds. Being a wagon helps accoustically, but it is just a really good system. I've owned some really premium cars, and this is the best imo. As example, my 98 range rover was really good, but not as good. The 04 jag xjr was also really good, but not quite. Both of these had high wattage "best offered" systems and came up a little short. The rover had harmon kardon and was in same quality range as my volvo, while jag had bose and came in third of the three. But my thing is that I have to have a really strong mid range and notice that when it is absent. I don't like overpowering tweeters (which was the jag/boses problem). Basically, well matched full range of sound is what I notice. So with your question, what I would do is check out same car as yours with the premium/best offered sound system. If you liked it, then I'd start hunting for it. Just my two pennies. Good luck.

I've got 1200watts in the trunk, and about 400ish around the cabin.

But first you need to get some good sound deadening throughout the cabin, for my 01's was not up to par.
