Default spotify is awful

I recently bought a new volvo XC40. Really nice car, and I was stoked to find a native spotify client. I found that the sound quality of the native client was much better than blueooth or carplay so I really want to use it.

Unfortunately the app is horrible, and it is really disappointing that neither Spotify nor Volvo (both known for their excellent product quality) has done anything about it. Issues are:
  • After starting the car and starting Spotify it can take up to 5 minutes to start streaming (and sometimes it never does - you have to switch to radio and back to get it to work)
  • More than half the time, the track shown on the screen is not the track that I am listening to.
  • Maybe 30% of my Library is shown, and nothing is in alphabetical order, making it unusable
  • There are constant interruptions and "Buffering...". I am on a 4G service in a metropolitan area, and get 50Mbps down on average
So there are 2 major issues here:
  1. The user interface of the app itself displays incorrect information and is close to unusable. Issue for the developer
  2. The way data is used by the app / car is broken (I suspect this is a volvo issue)
I am not sure if this app was developed by Spotify or Volvo. If it was developed by Volvo I can kinda understand that a car manufacturer would build a bad app (which they really need to fix), but if it was developed by Spotify then shame on you for allowing such a mess to tarnish your reputation! You are both from Sweden and should have developed something worthy of both your companies

Would love to know if anyone else has encountered these problems and if they have found a solution, or whether volvo is going to fix this

Hello everyone!

It seems like Spotify is not longer available or temporarily unavailable for download. At least in my car...

I recently bought a used 2017 XC90 T6 Inscription and went on doing a Factory Reset as I wanted a clean start...

Well... needles to day that all of the installed apps were wiped out.

When trying to reinstall them, Spotify was not available to download...

Upon consulting a couple of dealers I was told it is not available to download anymore. But the reasons for that varied between the dealers. One told that the Apps was having a lot o issues and Volvo decided tu pull it off until solved and the other said that their license (Volvo's licence with Spotify) was no longer valid as Volvo and Spotify could not reach and agreement on a new deal. And since Spotify was also available through CarPlay it didn't make sense to Volvo spend money with that with Spotify.

So...

If you have, use and like/prefer Spotify on the multimedia unit and are planning on a Factory Reset, have that in mind...

Otherwise, have anyone heard something regarding this issue recently?

Regards,
Daniel

I have an S60 MY'22. I was able to download the Spotify app on my car so it's working again in 2022 in Canada. I think the real issue is that Volvo doesn't know how to use a buffer. The whole idea of a buffer is that the car can load ahead the current track and maybe even the next few tracks. That way if you start your car and there internet connection hasn't fully established yet it can still play the music/podcast/etc. from what was saved in buffer before the car was shut off. Instead this car seems to clear the buffer every time you turn off the car.
Really easy fix. Increase buffer and retain it on the internal HDD of the car since they all seem to have huge hard drives in them that are empty.

I have met similar problems with streaming music from Spotify on my Volvo C70. It was annoying when I failed to connect Spotify app to my car. But now I used AMusicSoft Spotify Music Converter to get music uploaded on USB. AMusicSoft helps me download Spotify music and upload them to my USB drive! I don't need to pay for Spotify's subscription every month. And I can enjoy a vast music library when I am driving.

In fact, it is still a bit difficult to connect to the Spotify program in the car all the time, because sometimes driving through some no-signal areas. If you want to listen to Spotify songs in the car, it is best to download and convert the songs to MP3 format, and then connect to the car device through the USB port, so that you can listen to songs anytime, anywhere.

Man, that sounds like a frustrating situation with your Volvo's Spotify app. It's a shame when a cool feature like that doesn't live up to expectations. The delays and incorrect track listings would drive anyone nuts! Hopefully, Volvo or Spotify will get their act together soon and sort out these issues. In the meantime, you might wanna explore other options or maybe even give the Bluetooth or CarPlay a shot if they offer better reliability. And hey, if you're ever looking to boost your Spotify account, you can buy Spotify streams to give your tunes a little extra love.
