Default Steam and coolant leak INSIDE my 1992 940

I love my 940 (300K+ miles!) but now 5 minutes after I start driving radiator steam pours from my vents, and coolant leaks into the interior from the firewall and pools in the floor! Looks like there's a small drip coming from the water pump but best guess so far is blown heater core. Is this a DIY repair? Sounds like I may need to remove the dash? (!) Yikes! Hoping for some insights. Thanks!

Yes to get to the heater core you have to remove the dash and all of the components attached to it.

Sounds horrible. Do you know if it requires any specialized tools? Ay way to estimate time required? Thanks
