Thumbs up steering question


hello every one am gonna start saying that I got my 3 volvo car I used to have a 240 then a 850 wagon beautiful and now a 1999 s70 in perfect cond; my only question is this I know that my other 2 old volvo the steering was kind of harsh or stiff comparing to newer cars that u can turn with one finger but my s70 I think is a little more than what I remember from my 240 and 850,,is this normal …….just in case ps pump is good the rack is good the u joints in the steering were kind of lock were stiff at around 2 4 8 10 oclock but I got them loose up with penetrating,,,,,,am thinking of getting new set of u joints if thety sell it...….is there something else I shud look into or any tip …..thanks here is a picture of her

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to open your pic. However, I'm not sure what you mean by "u-joints". I think that you are referring to ball joints.

If your steering is that stiff and you had to use penetrating oil to get the steering to free up, then your car is unsafe to drive. Basically with that much tension to overcome the ball joints could break and you could lose control of your car. With the vehicle being 20 years old, it is probably time to freshen up the front suspension.

Oh, that thing. Definitely replace it. If I remember correctly, they're keyed and can only go on and be indexed one way.
