Default Stereo Wiring on 88 Volvo 240 GL

Hi,
I have been trying to install an aftermarket stereo in a friend's Volvo and am having some trouble. There was no plug so I had to cut the wires from the back of the stock radio. There was no wiring harness available for this car I was told. I have figured out the constant power, Ignition and the Ground. The problem I have is that none of the many wiring diagrams I have found show the same colours as I see for the speakers. They all show Grey + Gray/yellow and white + white/yellow for the front. I have 3 wires, Blue, Blue/white and white/blue that seem to control all 4 speakers by hooking up different combinations of the 3 wires. For instance connecting the blue and the blue/white power the right (front and rear). Connecting the blue and white/blue power the left (front and rear). Connecting the blue/white and white/blue seem to power all 4 speakers at once, at seemingly varying volumes, although it's possible one of the speakers is blown.
I have read that there is an amp that may need to be bypassed, but I'm not sure if this is the problem. I was unable to find the amp above the glove box as I was led to believe it was, but I did not completely have it apart so I may have missed it. Is this even my problem, am I looking in the wrong place, or am I just totally way off about the whole thing?

Sorry for the long post, any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-danny

Search the 240 section of this site. I see these questions all the time but few answers.

Thanks rspi, but I eventually figured it out.
I somehow had the wrong wire hooked up as ignition (I know, stupid, but I swear it tested positive the first time...). I ended up taking off part of the dash, and found several connectors joining and splicing the wires going to the back of the radio so all the colours were different. The very bottom connector down by the gas pedal actually had all the correct colours from most of the wiring diagrams. The Front Left and Front Right speakers are joined to their respective rear sides, so it's automatic. The Negative wires from the front speakers are spliced into the ground somewhere under the dash, so all I actually needed to connect was the Front+ wires to the front+ coming out of the back of the deck. I believe White/blue was Left front+ and Blue/white was Right front+ (You might want to double check and test that though before you make a permanent connection, it was a few days ago). Red was power antenna, blue was ignition, and green was constant power. I hope this helps someone else, as I know there are lots of unanswered posts about this all over the place.
