Default Tires on new xc90 order

I have ordered a 2017 XC90 inscription model. Tuesday the dealer is going to summit my order. I am going between the stock 20" tires or the optional 21".Is their a big difference on handling. I live where we do get lots of snow and the roads are mostly is very good shape. Any input would be very helpful !

for winter driving in snow, Narrow is better than wide (to cut through the snow vs floating on top). Winter tires have more aggressive side lugs which do the gripping in snow, and a harder rubber compound for better grip on ice. With that said, the diff between 20 and 21 inch tall wheels is all for show - your comparing a 275/45 with a 275/40 profile. The shorter sidewall makes for better race track handling but hurts ride and ability to soak up potholes. Now here's the kicker - go shopping for 275/40-21 tires... a rare bird indeed. Best price on Tirerack is $275 a tire. Shop for 275/45-20s and you can find tires starting under $150 per with a good selection of 4x4 and winter tires. Seems the 20 is a better choice.

Also, more likely to damage the wheel when hitting potholes with the 21 inch wheel due to the shorter "40" profile tire.

I got mine with 22’s. They look great but limit the tyre choices. Hindsight I would have stayed with the 20’s. My winter wheels are 20s and I like the taller tyre on the car.
