I have a new XC 60 that I got a trailer hitch installed from Volvo to use my Thule bike rack with. I discovered that the receiver on the car is 1.25" and the standard Thule rack is 2". I bought an adapter for the conversion of 1.25 to 2 and the Volvo receiver does not allow adapter to go in far enough to line up pin hole to lock hitch in. Anybody had similar issue or solution? Thanks

 

check out etrailer.com (I've used them in the past) they offer a range of hitch adaptors and have good content and good support for questions. Sounds like you just need to find an adaptor that matches your need. Otherwise you can probably drill a new hole to lock the pin in - its not like your towing a 3000 lb trailer - you just want to lock in the bike rack with the adapter on right?

 

were you able to find an adapter that works? i have the same problem. tried two different adapters and both did allow the apdapter to go in far enough.

 

If you don't want to purchase the adapter or simply want a cleaner look, you can replace the hitch receiver with an after market class III or 2" for around $150.

 

Any luck finding a fit here? Tried 5 different adapters none of them fit.

 

i ended up sawing the adapter down so that it fit and locked in. been working fine since.
