Default 2013 XC60 tow hitch

I need to get a hitch put on my new 2013 XC60. Volvo service has quoted me $1200ish. I think the breakdown was $750 for the Volvo hitch (class II) and 4 hours service. That seems a little steep. A truck accessories company (30 years of experience) quoted $250 installed for a class III hitch (Curt brand). Breakdown is $125 for the hitch and 1.5 hours of service.

My current plans are limited to a bike rack, but I would like to provide the ability to add the trailer wiring later if the mood strikes.

Anyone had any issues with putting on an after market hitch and ended going back to Volvo anyway? Has anyone seen both and can comment on which has a cleaner look etc?

Pros and cons of each welcome!

The factory installed hitch is the only way to go. Well,I shouldnt say only. One way or another you will be at the dealer to have the module installed and the car has to recieve the proper software down load to let the vehicle know that it has a trailer hooked up to it.

If you let that aftermarket company Hard wire that light system in,you risk (take note,it WILL happen) cooking the REM and CEM modules.

All I see in my parts system is a class 2 hitch. If you want them to install the class 3 and have a dealer install the wiring, the price would be a bit cheaper.

I am considering the XC60 AWD for my next vehicle and need to be able to launch and tow a 16-18' outboard boat. With the T6 engine I don't think this would be a problem but does any one have experience with this? Would really like the XC70 AWD but gas mileage and towing capability doesn't seem to work as well as the 60.

"Razor" did you ever decide? Have the same have a 2013 RD XC60 and would like a hitch for a bike no towing. Read some posts on other sites about uhaul installing one for $250. Now Volvos are sesnstive for changes I'm not sure where to go.
Read some posts that the hitch cluncks to the exhaust. Appraciate some feedback.
