I have a 2001 Volvo V40 T4 that I have just bought and just this morning I noticed that when I rev the car it smokes quite badly from the exhaust, Checked all the seals for oil but no leak. I suspect it could be the turbo. Please help.

 

remove the turbo inlet hose & feel the freeplay for the turbine, there shouldn't b too much freeplay.

 

Thanks for the info, the turbo doesn't have much freeplay but now when I start it up it makes a rattling noise?

 

Turbo outlet side! Check all your Turbo hoses.

 

Unfortunately today I was driving to the mall (8 miles away) and my head gasket blew. Only had the car for 4 days.

 

Was about to say if it was all of a sudden it's usually head gasket. Not hard to replace, there are a few good write-ups around. Takes about 8 hours for me.

 

Thanks just had It replaced, They had to flush the whole engine out and its getting delivered today, Not sure if they saw the smoking problem
