Hi,

We have seen a 2005 V70 Estate Automatic, Petrol for sale which has done 140k miles.

It has been converted to run on LPG and is going for £2k, and has 2 months MOT left though the owners say they may MOT it as part of the sale.

We're looking to replace our old 940 estate (P reg) which is sadly on its last legs after doing 256k miles. We got it converted to run on LPG in 2008, when the car had done 107k miles.

I wondered what kind of reputation the V70s have with owners? I realise I can just read reviews online, but it's always useful to get the view of real owners, and also often reviews can be a bit biased as people often only review things if they want to complain about how awful they are, rather than to say anything positive.

And was told:

2005 will be phase 2 and this is the phase 1 section so maybe ask there .i have had both types and a 940 as well .
the phase 2 is a complex vehicle almost as different as possible from a 940 .940 is simple ,accessible ,very reliable indeed ,almost nothing will stop it .Phase 2 v70 is inaccessible ,complex and is always throwing some warning or other on the driver information module (DIM),which itself has been shown to be a source of trouble .A nice car when all working ,but........
The phase one is to my mind the perfect combination of modernity and volvo values .Some good ones still to be had ,although now getting fewer .
The phase2 was not my favourite car and it is big step up in complexity from the old 940.

Any advice much appreciated.
