Volvo S60 T2 - Keep having engine overheat, any workshop to recommend?
Hi All Volvo mates,
I own a Volvo S60 T2 which is 7yrs old.
Previously I encounter battery error msg which resulted in me changing the alternator and all the cables. (Keep reoccurring)
Within 1wk, the engine over heat error msg pop up and I have to head in the workshop again and have to change a new water pump and thermostat.
Now 3wks later, the overheat error msg pop up again and I'm frustrated as it seems my workshop didn't manage to resolve and fix the root cause of the problem.
Is there anyone be able to share with me a reliable workshop that specialized in Volvo that can share with me?
Greatly appreciate on this.
when you serviced the thermostat did you also replace the engine coolant temp sensor? Not sure about your model/year but on many volvos the ECT signal feeds the temp sensor and the ECU. You should find the sensor right next to the thermostat housing - you can do a quick test with a VOM and measure the resistance. you can google for resistance chart but generally at room temp (ie 70F, the resistance of the sensor should be something like 3K ohms. When the car is at operating temperature, the value goes down to 200-300. this will give you a sense of whether the car is actually overheating or just has a sensor issue. Also pay attention to other clues - does the car smoke or smell hot? Does the temp gauge come down when you turn the heater on full? does the fan come on when idling? Does it come on when you turn on the AC? What color is the coolant? Possible causes here are bad ECT sensor, air in cooling system (say when the pump was replaced?), clogged radiator, failed fan relay, fan motor, controller, failing water pump (don't assume a replacement part won't fail) are a few things that come to mind
