Default Volvo timing cover defect.

Has anyone resolved issue of the timing cover defect whereas the serpentine belt breaks, enters the timing area causing engine to jump time on an interference engine?
if not, is there a class action suit currently or would anyone be interested in one? I just had this happen to mine and i have kept vehicle in perfect shape through maintenance. Now i am looking at about 5000.00 dollars all because they used a flimsy timing cover.

Everyone is always looking for someone else to blame.

This isn't a defect with the timing cover. Obviously your car wasn't in perfect shape if your serpentine belt came apart. Good luck though.

If you knew what you were talking about then, you would know that the serpentine belt is not the issue. It's the poorly made timing cover which is easily pushed open, allowing anything to enter timing area and basically destroy an engine!

No its not about the timing belt cover. What probably happened with your car was the serpentine tensioner or idler failed and it took out the belt which when fails under speed can whip around with tremendous force, enough to damage the timing belt cover. That's where EST6's comment was going - your car had an undiagnosed issue and you experience a somewhat rare and unfortunately expensive repair. BTW, if you compare Volvo to other cars with timing belts, they are all pretty much the same. Its job is to keep dirt and water out, not to protect from a hammer blow. As a best practice, you should have your shop inspect and replace serpentine belt / tensioner / idlers each time you do work like replacing the timing belt, an accessory, water pump etc

If you knew what you were talking about, you'd know the shredded belt got wrapped around the crank pulley, which then caused the timing to jump. Can't really fully seal the timing cover.

Your car wasn't as pristine as you thought.

Good luck with your lawsuit though.
