Evening, I have an issue with my 2016 XC90 electric tailgate. When I press the button the tailgate clicks open but does not go up. I continue to lift it by hand then it goes up by itself but only halfway and stops. I have to push it to get it fully open. It will not close even if I use the button on the dash or on the tailgate itself or key fob.

Prior to this, and before it came to be this way, it would open intermittently and sometimes no issues at all.

Have pressed the buttons simultaneously and listening to the beeps thinking it would be a reset function but no difference.

One dealer service rep said I have to change the electric hydraulic power hatch lift supports.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Ordered the 4mm stainless rod from Amazon. Last night followed this step by step and the result was a perfectly operating handle.

I can open it by the handle. The handle is not the problem. It tries to open and closes immediately, then I have to pull it up. There obviously is resistance because of the geared function support.

 

Did you ever figure it out? Mine is behaving in a similar manner only the tailgate button seems to work better most of the time but it still half opens before it opens all the way. It closes fine from there. The dash or key fob won't do either.

 

Sadly, I have not and has been the same since I posted here. Was hoping someone else would have had the same situation with a reasonable solution that I could use to fix it.
