Pre induced air before the engine needs it, like a compressor.
That way it can be filtered really good without reducing air flow.

Sounds like forced induction to me, but now this thread's getting way off topic.

LOL, that's what I was thinking about 2 post ago, officially JACKED!!!

I remember not long ago they were selling those little metal turbine fined things for people to put in their intake tube to increase their air flow. Claiming boost of HP and gas mileage. They were selling them hard and it really did look interesting.

^ HAHA, I was just thinking about those! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Anyways, I use Amsoil myself. If you're a preferred customer, the prices are generally better than any synthetic in the stores. Used to do the yearly change, but recently switched to every six months just for peace of mind.

I pay more attention to the certifications on the back of the bottle than the brand name of the oil. If the oil meets the right specifications, why not buy the least expensive brand?

Less expensive quality oil changed often is probably better than the best oil changed rarely, at least that's my theory - with zero science to back it up.

wow talk about 1/2 a thread jacked off topic. i read this thread since i'm about to do an oil change here pretty soon since i don't know when the last one was done, before i put my volvo back on the road when the weather warms up and i was honestly unimpressed with the thread.
i did a search before i responded and still brought up threads that at least in topic had nothing to do with oil types(maybe i searched wrong?)
i'm wanting to know the best kinda oil to put in a 98 2.4 with 147k miles. i don't want to go synthetic due to doing a synthetic swap on a brand new v-twin motorcycle and getting a bunch of motor noise after i did it. so what weight is gonna be best for my motor??

Use what your manual states. I'm pretty sure it's 10w-30.

Cool, You can alway read your manual on-line @ Volvo:
Volvo Owners' Manuals | Owners' Manuals | Your Volvo | Top Navigation | www.volvocars.com/us

You can also register the car with Volvo and log into the high mileage club.

Have used Castrol GTX in everything I have driven since 1978. 5 Ford Mavericks (4 w 250 I6, 1 w 302 V8), 83 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Limited w 360 V8, 7 various Honda w I4, F150 w 4.2L V6. No lubrication problems in any of these vehicles. 4 of the Hondas and 4 of the Mavericks had 250,000 + miles when sold, the Jeep has 192,00, the F150 has 220,000 or thereabouts, and the V8 Maverick has 102,000, the other 3 Hondas were totals. The 2004 S60 is new to me and I intend to never turn a wrench on it, I found a great Volvo Master Mechanic to take care of everything, and he has proven to be honest and reliable when, as a new Volvo owner, he could have had his way with me. Whatever Volvo specifies, thats what John puts in it. Maintenance records show that the oil has been changed within 200 miles of 5000 since new. The car lived 2 years in Baltimore, 5 years in Dallas, and now is near Memphis.
