Default Why do you own a Volvo?

Hi guys

Why do you love Volvos so much. I'm doing a project about "Why are volvos so special?" What does Volvo have that no other car do?

Could you help?

Many thanks

Fabi xxxx

I originally bought my Volvo because it was the cheapestcar on a used car lot (sell by owner) that had the space requirements we needed. Since then, it's been fun fixing it up and getting help fromthis great community of Volvo owners.

Volvo has done a great job of marketing their safety-oriented design. Their saying goes 'Volvo For Life'. I'm sure thousands of lives have been savedby any one of their numerous safety innovations. My mom bought her Volvo after an accident in her Mercedes. She hit a concrete hwy barrier sideways after sliding on black ice. She was really banged up. After that, she was all about safety. While other manufacturers try to make good looking cars that are safe, Volvo makes safe cars that look good.

Newer commercials from the likes of SAAB now boast better crash ratings than Volvo. Volvo believes the current crash tests are outdated. They build their cars to sustain impacts gathered from their decades of research. Their crash center in Europe isn't too shabby, neither. It's perhaps the best in the world.

But I think what owners would generally agree with is that Volvo's are practical, sophisticated, and reliable. And the turbos are a hoot to drive.

I own a Volvo because a friend of the family sold me their 850 Turbo for $300 Yes three hundred dollars! I could easily have fixed the pnp switch and sold it for a HUGE profit, but after driving it I found it to be one of the greatest driving, best built cars I have ever driven. I am a Volkswagen Addict but found the Volvo to be a Jetta on Steroids!!!

Oh by the way 01_fast_ride [X(]MORE COWBELL!!!

I have two reasons why I bought my first one in 1985. First I was working in the DC area as a contractor and one of my clients what NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). The walls of the hallways were platered with crash tests done on Volvos. At the time they literally set the standard for other cars to follow.

Then my in laws bought a 83 760 Turbo Diesel. My wife and I borrwed it once and wanted on from then on. Within a year I had my own 85 760 Turbo Diesel that was just a really good car to drive and I knew how safeit was too. Plus I was driving a Volvo Diesel that blew the doors off of a Mercedes 450 SL once we got going over about 70mph. It was fun to "black smoke" people. The car really put out the black smoke when you floored it, but it was fast too.

Iam now on my 7th Volvo, and each of my three children have one too. I think the quality of the Volvo is the best you get for the money, and the cost of maintaining is not nearly as much as a Mercedes.

It was fun to "black smoke" people.
Busted a gut laughing to myself... nearly had tears in my eye. [sm=icon_rofl.gif]
That sounds like something I would have done for fun too.

edit: fabi, if you're looking for facts to add to your report regarding what makes volvos so special, here you go: Link to Volvo's numerous firsts in safety. enjoy.

One reason I own 2 of them is because I work on them.
The second reason is because of this.(See pics)

Yes Volvo has been at the forefront of safety for a long time ( though the others are catching up).Personaly ,I never bought a Volvo for safety. From my first Volvo (1963 544) I just liked the seating position and feel of the cars. I haven't been disappointed yet. The latest Volvo I have added to the garage is a 2006 V-70. It is without a doubt the best car I have owned yet. Just an absolute pleasure to drive.

I fell in love when i used to fly Business Class to Dubai and Emirates would drive me to my hotel in a V70. I now have a V70 of my own, my first Volvo. With the increasingly growing popularity of SUVs the station wagon is dying breed. I personally don't like SUVs in the city so a station wagon was my best option for loadspace and comfort, and who makes a better station wwagon than Volvo? The station wagon used to say 'soccormom' but now it just says i have interesting things to do on weekends. Plus my nephews love the rear-facing seat.

In my own opinion, the reason i purchased my volvo is because it follows one of the little mottos i have in life. He who has balance, wins. My volvo seems to have balance of everything i want, comfort, style, performance, and quality. We shall see.

Since the day I can remember I was riding in Volvo's. My dad bought the first one when I was about 3 months old. "Teddy" was a 122. I am sure that car is what gave him the big. It was a fluke, it was a cheap car for my parents to buy at the time. Then it was 240 wagons for years and years ("Big Yeller", "Old REd"). Then they decided to buy a Jeep Cherokee after a while of us hillbilly's living in CO. We had it for a few years till my parents bought a new '88 740 wagon. My mother still drives that car to this day. Living in WV, my dad bought a '80 240 GLE. Meant for us to share once I got my license. A move back to CO, and a couple of years later the 240 was mine because my dad had a company car. I named him "Bobalo" (had a thing for the name Bob in high school). Then when I was almost 19 I got the new car itch. Sold Bobalo and factory ordered a Dodge Neon. That Neon made me appreciate what I had after a couple of years. Took me a while to get back into a Volvo. 2002 I bought a '90 740 Turbo, "Vinnie" or "Vin". I just sold him almost two weeks ago to upgrade to a '98 V70 XC (his name is "Valo"). I obviously get attached to my Volvos, I cried when they drove off in him. The best damn car I have had so far! There is 6 of us in my immediate family. There are 7 cars in the family. All Volvos except a Volkswagon Jetta my sister HAD to have in 2002. My dad has it now, she has his 850 sedan. She does have her own 850 wagon we are trying to get titled. My brother has a '85 240 sedan, my other brother has a '89 740 sedan, my dad has a '89 740 wagon ("Vicki" and my sister's friend blew her engine. Dad has put ALOTTA money into her) and he also has the '94 850 sedan. The best thing to me? When I take my car to the Volvo mechanic here in town, I get to drive Bobalo. He is the shop's loaner car. I just love them. I will be Volvo for life. I hope one day I can afford to buy back Vinnie. I would have loved to have had them both.
