XC90 D5 sudden loss of power
Hi there can anyone help please. I have an XC90 2004 D5, the other day it suddenly just went flat. Took it into Volvo but the couldn't find the problem. When I drove it off from Volvo it was back to normal. 4 days later it did the same thing on the way home, next morning it was ok again??
Anyone experienced something similiar? Any advice?

Had the same problem with my V40. My non volvo garage hooked it up to a hand computer which came of with a fault code which can be interpreted in a code book .In my case, the exhaust sensor was telling the engine management system that the fuel mix was too rich. He zeroed the fault reading by the computer and the acceleration returned to normal. This has happened twice so the sensor by need changing
ok eventually after much to and fro I have the problem solved. This is what my rather frustrating story:
Step 1. book appt with local Volvo dealer - 1week
Step 2. Diagnosis is replace mass airflow and VGR valve - 2weeks for the parts to arrive, cost R6500
Step 3 book an appt to install parts - 1 week
Step 4 draw 10kms from dealership and problem is back
Step 5.book appt with same local dealer to diagnose problem -1 week
Step 6. problem diagnosed as some sort of sensor - 3 weeks for part to arrive
Step 7. book an appt to install part - 1 week
Step 8. pay another R 2000
Step 9. drive 300meters out of dealership and same problem occurs again
Step 10. return to dealership and scream at everybody
Step 11. dealership keeps the car for 3 days - i am now begging lifts to work and back from my colleagues
Step 12. replace another part - turbo govenor
Step 13. dealership gives me car back and says that they will keep the job card open and I must drive the car to see if problem reoccurs.
To date the problem has not come back. I have called the dealership on 2 occasions to say that all is good and that I would like to come in and close the job card and settle the bill - its now been 2 months and still no response.... I would ideally like my R 9000 back that i have paid for replacing parts that didn't need to be replaced??!! Does anyone think that I will be reimbursed.....I wait in anticipation.
Any how so is life. To all you XC 90 D5 owners, all I have to say is that if you experience the same problems like I had, try the turbo govenor first - its a lot cheaper!!!
In summary I love the car, its design, performance and safety. I however am sad to say that I seriously doubt its reliabilty?? I have no just the other day picked up that when the autobox changes from 2nd to 3rd their is a distinctive thud??!! Oh dear I am dreading what this bill may be like...
