Arrow XC90 reliability?

I tried posting in the XC90 forum, but I didn't get any replies.

I've been looking for a new-to-us car, and one of the ones that really caught my eye was the XC 90. Really, really, caught my eye. It has everything that I'm looking for, and for someone who's only 5' tall the driver's seat was SO comfortable!!

Looked on craigslist, found several for sale in my price range. BUT .... they are 2004-2005 models and seems like every review I find give it bad marks for reliability.

Then I talked to someone at a Volvo dealership & was told those are mostly the T6 models & if I stick with a 5 cyl I should be fine. However, my husband is very skeptical as he doesn't trust dealerships.

Do you know if that's true or not??

thanks!

The dealership is right. Avoid the T6.

Other people are telling me that repairs are too expensive, that I should not get a Volvo

How bad are repairs, really? I'm assuming I would have to take it to a dealer?

Um, if I could afford a new car I would. But we are not in that position; finances are limited. Thus, the concern about repair costs.

Default 2004 XC90 Expensive to maintain

I have a 2004 XC90 T6 with just over 120K miles. Every repair on this car has been expensive; brakes, starter, timing belt, fuel pump, etc. I've also had an intermittent problem with the car stalling which the shop hasn't been able to figure out what's causing it. Another concern with this car is that it burns through tires really fast. I'm lucky if I get 25,000 miles out of a set of tires. The brakes also wear out fast and I usually have to replace the rotors as well. Front brakes with rotors runs around $550 in my area. I do love driving this car though.
