Default ???intake for 850 ???

Im looking to get a little more power out of my 96 850 i have a straight exhaust to an apex muffler it sounds like an import tuner but it has nothing done to the engine so i am looking for an intake i tried to make one but i want the real deal something good that wont have problems. also with the one i made there are two little hoses that were attatched to the back of the filter box what are those for and do they need to be connected to something??? also the larger hose that was connected to the front of the top of the filter box. please someone help me out with some ideas and/or products that are good. these are some pics of what im talking about.

1. There are no true intake systems for Volvo's. Nothing like a Honda CAI (Cold Air Intake) available. EST (EuroSportTuning, http://www.eurosporttuning.com ) sells a intake system with a heatshield it is pricey IMO but at least it has a heatshield, but your still sucking in hot under the hood air.

2. The pictures you posted are like the EST version without the heatshield and the stock intake pipe running to the filter.

4. Viva Performace, http://www.vivaperformance.com/catalog/

5. FCP Groton is a good parts site in general and has a few aftermarket products too, http://www.fcpgroton.com

Chip Tuners

1. IPD, costs around $900 something

2. RICA, U.S. dealer is Viva Performance costs around $800-$900

3. BSR PPC, EST sells BSR PPC now it costs about $1,000

4. EST, they sell their own ECU upgrade at around like $500-$600

5. Upsolute, $425, http://www.upsolute.com/eng/index.html

6. SpeedTuning USA, $325, http://www.speedtuningusa.com/

RICA sells remaps for $100, SpeedTuning USA free remaps

Best engine up grades are...

1. 3" downpipe, mandrel bent

2. 2.5" free flowing exhaust with high flow cat and free flowing muffler like Magnaflow etc..., mandrel bent

Now if you get a bigger turbo upgrade the 2.5" exhaust to a full 3" catback system. The 3" downpipe will give you the biggest gains for exhaust mods.

3. ECU upgrade, look under my top post under CHIP TUNERS for info there.

4. EST RIP kit may or may not be worth while seems expsensive for what it is, you could make one cheaper from a local exhaust shop.

5. New intercooler from EST and or custom FMIC setup.

Also before you really do any tuning do this...

"stage zero "tuning" list and if ur car lacks performance...

Full stage 0 list:

Plugs
cap/rotor
oil/transflush
filter (oil)
hoses (the little vac lines)
samco hose kit
02 sensors
fuel pumps
clean injectors
clean IC/IC plumbing
Air filter
plug wires"

Quoted from Volvospeed.com

For the SAMCO Turbo hoses you can also get turbo hoses from StylinMotors Inc.. They just came out with their version and I am getting them for my 1999 s70 awd and will have them tomorrow. Mine will be different then the ones for the Pre 99 models.

The big hose in the picture is for the Air pump. Yes needed unless you always want to stare at the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
The second pic One of the hoses are for the Heat rise setup. Then other I believe is the Vaccum feed for the Heatrise.
