GPS -- Whom Uses & What Brand
I am considering another GPS unit and was wondering who all uses GPS and what brand / unit do you have? Do you like it ir not?
I have an Alpine Blackbird and absolutely love it. I went with the Alpine because I have a docking station in my glovebox of the Explorer that integrates it into my 7" Alpine Touchscreen DVD HU. I can pop it out of there if we are taking one of the cars (Volvo or Mustang) and stick on the windshield mount in whatever car we are taking which is nice although I only have 1 winshiled mount / 12V power cord. That makes it kind of a pain when wanting to use it in the Volvo (her toy) because the windshield mount usually is in the Mustang (my toy) and the docking station in the Explorer (daily driver). I have been considering buying another GPS system for the Volvo so my fiance' can find her way around town (new city she's never lived in before). I have heard good things about Garmin abut really haven't looked into a new one yet. I am not going to drop another $500 on an Alpine. I would like to spend around $300 or less. Are there any particular systems out there any of you would recommend?

RE: GPS -- Whom Uses & What Brand
I tried out 3 models 2 weeks ago.
Navigon 5100: Nice looking free liftime traffic TTS big screen but the volume was too low for me.
Garmin nuvi 200w: Nice unit no frills good screen not clutered, volumn was plenty loud for my tractor trailer
Magellan 4050: Big display Blue tooth comes with traffic kit( need to subscribe) pretty loud, voice recognition
I went with the magellan 4050

I've got a Navigon 2100Maxx ($200 Costco special!). It works good enough, but isn't as nice as the Garmin Nuvis I've gotten with the past couple of Avis cars I've rented.
The Garmin voice and logic just seems so much better than the Navigon, but the one Avis rents out is 3x the price of the Navigon.
Since I do a lot of city driving, the realtime traffic updates are critical, and both have worked well rerouting me - again the Garmin doing it a little better.
Next time I'll pony up the extra $$ and get the a Garmin Nuvi.

I highly recommend either Garmin or TomTom. I myself do prefer TomTom since they seem to give more detailed results and you can be more specific as to what you what in your results (Example, you can search points of interest in upcoming towns, near current location etc. where garmin will only do near current location). TomTom also gives a little bit more free as far as updates go. You can correct errors or changes in your machine and upload them to TomTom where they are shared with other users for free.
As far as different models go, it just depends on what you want for features. The mapping is all nearly identical. If you want widescreen, Text to Speech, Bluetooth, FM transmitters etc, then you just buy the higher models.

I would never pay more than $100 on a GPS. I just bought a tomtom125 a couple of days ago and it does its job perfectly.
A gps should only guide you from A to B. You dont need all the extra stuff like bluetooth, fm radio, christmas tree and even if you do, they're probably not top quality on the GPS unit anyways. I even use my GPS on my motorcycle and it works good.

Dont need a radio when you got an awsome exhaust note, dont need leather seats, when a comfy racing seat will do, dont need traction controll or ABS, a little thing called drivers' skillz, dont need all those airbags, when you got a full cage and harness.

True, and a Car gets you from point A to point B, so you dont need any of the other crap they put in them. Give me a stripped car with 400hp and I am happy .
