1988 Volvo 740 GLE wont start help
Hello my volvo recently started acting up. I was driving home from work and it just died, i eventually got it home to work on it but havnt had any luck yet. It is turning over and getting fuel but there is no spark. The old coil pack was getting power but not sending any out to the distributor so i replaced it with a brand new one but it still is not sending power. Does this mean there isnt enough volts going into the coil so it cant send power out? super lost at this point any help is appreciated.
Back in the day when we had these coming through, the first things we always checked were the crankshaft position sensor on the back of the engine block and the fuel pump relay. The lack of spark tells me that you have a lack of a crank signal.
Here's what the crank sensor looks like on that car.

The way that we used to "test" them is to remove them and do a visual. They typically had the insulation falling off the wire and the foil shield was falling apart. If you have never changed it, it is probably due for service.
The symptoms are an intermittent no start condition.
