1990 Volvo 240 won’t turn over
Bought a 1990 Volvo 240 a month ago, ran perfectly up until 2 days ago, started sputtering and hiccuping, it went away and the car ran good until yesterday, drove home and on the way it stalled on my 4 times, went away after a few hours then came back, hit a really bad pothole and it completely killed my car, just cranking, no start, I’ve checked the fuses under my hood and inside my kick panel, swapped out two fuel pump relays, all were good. What should I be checking for? I’m about to work on the car all day today until I get it running, and also, I have a perfectly running 1991 Volvo 740, are the parts from that car compatible with the 240?
I would remove the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is turning when you crank the engine. If not, broken timing belt. I would also disconnect the negative battery post, disconnect the fuel line, extending it with a hose into a bucket, short out the fuel pump relay with a jumper, then touch the negative terminal back. You will be able to see if it is pumping fuel.
