hey guys. I just picked up my first Volvo on Sunday...been wanting one for a few years and finally needed to get a cheap car to get to work with. picked it up from Craigslist, drove it home, parked it, went out to start it, and no dice!

it has a thermostat problem and I had to put coolant in it. it has a brand new water pump, but it was still over heating when sitting at idle & not moving. so I need to figure out what's going on. it drove fine all afternoon, then when I got it home, I went to start it and it just cranks but won't turn over. I let it sit all day yesterday, and it started last night again, but it was a hard start.

so yeah...I've got a good bit of work on my hands and hopefully I'll find my answers here.

So, you may want to move this post over into the 240, 740, 940 area, as it will likely get more attention there, and they're not overly fond of people posting technical questions in the new members area. But off hand, it sounds like the thermostat is stuck closed, and needs to be replaced. If it does that, it doesn't mater how much coolant is in it--none is going through the radiator.

 

yeah, just wanted to pop in here and introduce myself. I got a lot of work done this weekend on it, so I'm gonna post over in the tech forum now.
