1992 960 200k+ miles
Hello all;
I currently have a 1992 960 that my dad and I picked up at the factory. He kept very good care of the car and is in excellent condition. No rust anywhere, all OEM Volvo parts and is running great. Only problem is the speedometer says I am doing 45 when I am really doing 80. Local dealer diagnosed as it being a problem with the actual speedometer and come to find out, they are VERY hard to find now days. I even contacted 2 speedometer repair specialists and they said "NO!" to fixing it.
For now I will use GPS, just need to find a good speedometer sometime, and a hifi amp (back speakers don't work).

I am sure if you really look you can find about anything you need. I find at times the best way to locate parts is by sitting right here at my computer with my good ole cup of joe. for example but not suggesting this is the part you need (however it maybe?) I did a quick search on ebay for your part and

Remove the screws on the bezel holding the speedo unit in the dash. Gently pull it forward and look for a lose ground wire. Then remove and place on a towel... with the circuit board facing up. Using a magnifying glass, look for loose solder joints. It may appear as a bit of black, where it should be silver, around a soldered pin. This is a common problem. My 1992 960 wagon had the same issue. It is repairable...just use a fine tipped soldering iron and heat the connection until the solder fills the area around the wire. Be careful of surrounding components.
