1995 Volvo 960 - New dude, new car.
I'm a new member here, and here's my new side project/new beat-around-town; 1995 Volvo 960.
Story:
I've been keeping an eye on CL over the past few months for either a Nissan or Toyota pick up truck, a small Japanese import, or an older Saab or Volvo. I basically just wanted a car I could do some minor repairs to and use as my daily commuter. I like older, boxier cars, and wanted a manufacture I had some prior experience with.
After dealing with innumerable dead beats, and making offers on over priced POS vehicles, I was about ready to throw in the towel. Then, I happened on a CL ad for a $1000 mid 90's brick while eating breakfast on Sunday morning. I mulled it over for a bit and thought, "wtf, I'll give it one more shot." I called the number on the ad, met the guy at his house, drove the car, offered him $650, he accepted, and I was on my way. I couldn't have asked for a smoother transaction.
So, $650 and a three mile drive later...
It has some defects, but it's all pretty basic stuff (paint pealing, cracked interior, etc). It needs new sway bar end links and bushings, new rear struts, new brake pads and probably rotors, and a new mid pipe on the exhaust. It runs and drives fantastically, and it's pretty quick for how heavy and aged it is. It has 197,5xx miles on it now, but I was given dealer service records with the car and it's up to date on everything, including the timing belt. The only rust is under the battery tray, the only fluid leak appears to be from the drain plug on the oil pan. I'll delve deeper into all of that later. Right now though, I am pretty happy with my purchase, to say the least.

I'm tearing into the rusty, grimy goodness tonight. I'd like to at least finish the front brakes. I had to order the rear pads and rotors in because no one seems to carry them locally.
